The Muscle Shoals City Council is looking at passing a law that basically says you can't have more than three cats or dogs in your home. The idea that came from Colbert County Animal Control.
The proposed law would limit the number of cats and dogs you can have at home to three. The law would not account for fish, gerbils and other small pets, only outdoor pets. And the law wouldn't affect farm animals because it's already illegal to have those inside the city limits.
Animal Control Officials say the proposed law is designed to reduce the noise, smell and clutter associated with a lot of animals in a residential home. The animal law Muscle Shoals is looking at is the same one that's been in affect in Sheffield and Tuscumbia.
Animal control official say since the law already works in Sheffield and Tuscumbia, they are hoping people will accept it in Muscle Shoals. The law will not spread to the county. That would take an act by the state legislature.
