Two grandmothers are on a mission. The women want
to protect rights they say animal activists are trying
to take away.
They're two grandmas with guts. Linda Hunnicutt
says they're the "Granny Warriors."
Hunnicutt and Karen Racca camped out at the State
House. In an old motor home, the duo is going state
to state protesting PETA.
They're determined to put a dent in what they call
the animal activists groups' propaganda. Racca talks
about their stance, "I'm here fighting for the right to
have the pet of our choice."
The grandmas' passion for protest comes from being
pet owners, but not ordinary pet owners. The Granny
Warriors are afraid of losing Bud, China and Andy as
more animal rights legislation gets closer to passing
nationwide.
Hunnicutt says, "All they care about is that you might
eat an animal. That animal has the same right as you
do, that's what they're saying. I don't believe that. I
would never hurt an animal, but that animal doesn't
have the same right as I have."
Supporters from as far away as Aiken showed up.
Lara Boyd is with the future farmers of America. Boyd
says, "I really don't understand the concept of
closing out hunting and fishing. You had to do it, it's
in the Bible. You had to do it in the early days to
survive."
PETA responded to the Granny Warriors,
saying, "Even people who exploit animals have a right
to picket."
Hunnicutt and Racca say they're not exploiting,
they're exposing PETA and the bills the group helps
write.
Racca hopes the movement will spread, "If two old
ladies are willing to get out here and fight for our
rights and everyone else's rights, maybe we'll get
some other people behind us."
With plans to end up in Texas, it looks like the
fighting grannies are far from finished.
