Sportsmen’s Action Needed to Stop the U.S. Postal
Service
From Promoting Humane Society of the United States
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is allowing the
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to
place its anti-animal use rhetoric on postage stamps,
and use money gained from the sale of the stamps to
further its anti-hunting, anti-animal use mission.
Sportsmen’s action is needed immediately to stop this
outrage.
Zazzle.com, the company offering the HSUS stamps,
reports that through its Community Giving Program 20
percent, or more, of the sales of the HSUS stamps
goes to the HSUS.
Earlier this year, Congress amended an 1872 law that
forbade advertisements on U.S. currency, including
postage stamps. The amendment paved the way for
an experimental one-year trial period allowing
companies such as Endicia.com, Stamps.com and
Zazzle.com to offer customizable stamps via the
Internet. These stamps can be printed with
everything from baby photos to corporate logos, and
in the case of the HSUS stamps, anti-animal use
slogans.
Sportsmen must stop this now! Every penny earned
through such fundraisers is another penny that will be
used to bring an end to hunting, fishing and trapping
in the United States.
Contact the USPS and make your outrage known!
Send letters to Postmaster General John Potter, 475
Lenfant Plaza SW, Washington, D.C., 20260-0010.
Faxes can be sent to Mr. Potter at (202) 268-5211.
Convince him that it is unacceptable for the USPS to
promote and raise money for the HSUS.
Most importantly, call, write and fax your U.S.
senators and congressman. Let them know that you
expect them to put an end to this exploitation of the
U.S. Mail to benefit an inflammatory organization such
as the HSUS. Be sure to send a copy of your letters
and faxes to the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance.

| Police Seize 50 Dogs & Cats From House |
 |
|
Pelican Bay Police Chief Eddie Frankum told CBS11
News that the house belongs to Delores Knight, who
is a Code Enforcement and Animal Control Officer for
Pelican Bay. Frankum told us Knight seized a dog
belonging to a resident of Pelican Bay. He said that
when the resident went to Animal Control to retrieve
his dog, Knight refused to give it to the man.
Frankum said the resident filed a complaint with the
city, and the Police Department started an
investigation. Frankum says police learned that Knight
had sold the dog, and police asked her to turn over
the city paperwork she should have completed
regarding the seizure of the dog.
Frankum said Knight refused, so police got a warrant
to search her house in Azle. When police got to the
Azle house on Thursday, Frankum said they found
about 50 dogs and cats. Chief Frankum also said
police found drugs for euthanizing animals that had
been purchased by the City of Pelican Bay.
Chief Frankum said most of the animals found at the
house are in poor condition, and he thinks most will
have to be euthanized. All the animals are currently
in the custody of Parker County’s Animal Control
department.
Knight is facing several charges, including theft by a
public servant.

Why is it so natural for people to listen to the lies
from the mouths of the Animal Activist Terrorists and
applaud loudly? How has it become so easy for those
who proclaim to be rescuing companion animals to
wholesale destroy these animals once gaining
possession of them? Why do educated, intelligent
people watch news pieces proclaiming that the poor
animals have no food, water, or shelter while showing
food bowls containing food, water buckets containing
five gallons of water, and showing frightened dogs
peering shyly from inside their dog houses. Can we
no longer see that the pictures do not fit the spoken
description, or do we just no longer care that the
media lies to us verbally while showing us the truth?
PeTA, HSUS, SPCA, ASPCA, SHAC, and many of the
ordinary shelters now trained by these groups have
such a well-oiled presentation of hysteria that they
are allowed to steal, destroy, and then sell stolen
goods in broad daylight with the silent sanction of
millions of American Citizens who sit motionless on
the sidelines simply watching. Next the new owners
of stolen property smile broadly for a picture that is
then carried by participating newspapers, T.V.
presentations, and, of course the World Wide
Internet. Never one time do these asleep Americans
even question that their newly purchased furry friend
may have belonged to some other American child,
elderly, or otherwise upstanding citizen like
themselves who are reeling from the experience of
having their pet stolen by an extremist bully.
It is past time for us to become concerned about the
Terrorist Practices being exercised on hard-working,
God fearing, family oriented, community conscious
citizens who would never be caught dead treating
their neighbor the way they have been treated. Not
to mention that the dog, or cat, or goat, or horse, or
a cow, or a chicken
taken from them would never have met an early
death in their care. But that is the fate of most
companion animals confiscated by the bully thugs of
the PeTA, HSUS, SPCA, ASPCA, SHAC and shelter
organization that ripped animals from the families who
loved them.
Since when do Americans tolerate mafia tactics and
do absolutely nothing? Since when do Americans
become so blind to injustice that injustice becomes
the norm, the acceptable behavior, the common
practice of small, medium, and large communities?
Maybe we have lost site of right action, and have
become a country visited now by our own stupidity,
our own insensitivity, our own promiscuity that allows
us now to treat our own citizenry with such blatant
disregard.
Do we actually now beg someone else---the leaders
of the all powerful, wealthy, arrogant so-called
rescue organizations tell us what to eat, when to
eat, or that we deserve not to eat at all? Are all
Americans expected to become so deeply asleep as
to allow such nonsense to go unchecked within our
own borders?
Think about it, or better still---THINK before that
very activity becomes a story in the far distant past
about how it used to be in America.

| Officials Criticize 'Hooters for Neuters' |
 |
|
LOS ANGELES --Several city officials on Tuesday
sharply criticized a planned bikini contest to raise
money for spaying pets, saying the "Hooters for
Neuters" event was degrading to women.
Hosted by the Hooters restaurant chain, the July 13
fundraiser will donate money to the spay and neuter
programs at Los Angeles Animal Services.
"Are we going backward here?" said City Controller
Laura Chick. "We are a city with all kinds of
progressive programs that empower women and end
discrimination in the workplace, and now we're being
connected with a Hooters bikini contest. It isn't right."

| Humane Society Sued By Man Charged In Cockfighting Case |
 |
|
NEWPORT, Tenn. — A man whose roosters were killed
last year after a raid on a cockfighting pit is suing the
Humane Society of the United States.
William Todd Webb of Sevierville is seeking $25,000 in
compensatory damages and additional unspecified
punitive damages, according to his lawsuit filed in
Cocke County Circuit Court last month.
The FBI led a raid on Del Rio Cockfighting Pit on June
11, 2005, and seized more than 300 roosters that
were later euthanized. Misdemeanor charges were
brought against 143 people and about $40,000 in
cash was seized.
"Whether cockfighting is right or wrong, and whether
or not our client was involved in cockfighting, any
person who has property in the United States is
entitled to have that property protected and to have
due process before the destruction of that property,
especially by a private organization," said Joe Baker,
one of Webb's attorneys.

Below is the life of a cockfighter, in his own words.
Written by Hatch 38.This was taken from a
message board to which you will find the URL link at
the bottom of this "Featured Article".
Pannic, please take time to read this...I respect your
right not to support cockfighting. That is one area we
disagree and there's probably other things we
disagree on. I'm sure there's plenty of things we
agree on also. I'm glad you recognize if you give the
ARA an inch they'll take a mile. But tell me this, do
you think cocks would benefit from a three week
keep as opposed to the usual two week? Or do you
think three weeks is too long and the cocks would go
over? Also, with the modern breeding techniques of
today, do you think the Hatches have been improved
and still have their power but are now as fast as the
Kelsos or do you feel the Kelso are still faster? I
seriously doubt that you can answer those questions
or even know what I'm talking about. I respect your
feelings on the subject but you're making a decision
on something you're not informed on. Even if you
were familiar with the sport you still may not support
cockfighting because bottom line is cocks do fight
and some of them die. I don't view cocks fighting as
entertainment but I feel to fight is their destiny.
Fighting is what they were hatched from the egg for
and then given the best of care for two years for.
You've got to wonder what would make a man endure
the hardships and commit the dedication that's
required to raise gamecocks? If you read the other
thread on cockfighting then you know that cockers
put only their God and family ahead of their chickens.
Good lord at the time, money, hard work, and sweat
one has to put in to raise gamecocks. Good cockers
are extremely dedicated to their fowl. I could
probably count on both hands (meaning several
times) how many times I sprang to the floor in the
middle of a cold night and find myself standing in my
chicken yard wearing only my drawers, a flashlight,
and a shotgun....because I heard something in my
chickens.
I dreaded winters....each morning before I went to
work I would go to the yard to feed my chickens and
to often their water would be frozen. A chicken
needs some water when they eat or they will get
crop bound. So I would dump the ice out of their
water cups and put in fresh water that wasn't frozen.
That's a lot of water cups because the cocks must
be kept separate or they will fight. My fingers would
get so numb from messing with ice and water that I
would have to come back in the house to let them
thaw a bit several times before I would get them all.
If we were going through a cold spell I would do that
twice a day because the water would refreeze. When
it snowed I had to go down and shovel spots in the
snow so they would have ground they could stand on
because their feet would freeze if they stood in
snow. Gamecocks are more like a wild pheasant than
the chickens you know.
Gamecocks prefer to roost in trees and roam in
woods than be in pens....and it's better for them. I
had my brood fowl in covered pens.....big expensive
pens because gamecocks needs plenty of room and
they need to be on the ground. I had pens I could
move around so I could put them on fresh grass but
my permanent pens I would every couple years go in
and dig the ground floor up, haul it off, and put in
fresh dirt....that was always a dreaded pain. But our
battle fowl we would keep on tie cords....that's
where we tether them with a special rubber cord on
one leg and stake it in the ground in such a manner
that they couldn't wrap around the stake down spot.
We would put a roost perch off the ground....again in
such a manner so they will not get tangled on it. The
chickens loved it and it kept them healthy. Also, on
cords they are easily available so we can pick them
up and get them used to being handled and we can
inspect them to keep them healthy. Also, on cords
it's a lot easier to keep them dusted for mites and to
worm them.
We can tell a lot about a cocks heath just by holding
him in our hands. We call it "good flesh". If we notice
a chicken is not acting right or we pick them up and
they are not in good flesh the first thing we do is
check their poop....you can tell a lot about a
chickens health by checking his their droppings. I've
closely examined a lot of chicken shit in my life. In
the tie cord yard is where most of the snow shoveling
was done. Cocks are pampered from the time the egg
is laid until fight time.....and then after. We have
special boxes (carry boxes) we would transport them
in constructed so their feathers would not get
damaged. Cockers are very picky about the feathers.
A good cocker wants his cocks calm and relaxed
when it came time for him to do his part of the deal. I
would always put them in the carry boxes and ride
them around in my truck a few times until I could tell
the were used to it. They were nervous the first
couple times but after a while they would practically
hop in the boxes themselves. I like for my visitors to
go down and look at my chickens.....helped them get
used to people around them. I often play a radio loud
so they would get used to noise. All these things are
what they would encounter when time to fight and I
want him concentrating on his opponent not what's
going on around him. There are all kinds of rituals
that cockers go through to make sure their cocks are
in the peak of health and mental preparedness. In
fact, the whole process is called peaking and most
cockers will pull out of the fight (it's called scratching
the fight) and take their chickens home if they feel
like the cocks aren't acting right. Good cockers will
not allow their cocks to fight if they are not
100%......because we feel it's not right by them
because we are asking them to risk their life and
have an obligation to do our part. So you see Pannic
it's not merely entertainment but more like an
agreement between the cocks and the cocker. We
know what they are prepared to do but we have an
obligation to do our part. Cockers have a very
personal relationship with our cocks and we know
each bird's personality. The cocker has spent so
much individual time with each bird that we feel they
are an extension of ourselves. If a cock loses his
fight most cockers will fill a bit of guilt because we
feel there must have been something he needed that
we missed and we let him down. We feel the care we
have given our chickens are the reason they are
what they are....good or bad. I won't bore you with
all the hoops we jump through in the summer to help
keep the chickens cool.
Anyway....what I just briefly described don't begin to
fully explain what's involved with properly raising
gamecocks. I never bet on my chickens....I mean I
might bet $10.00 or so, but it was never about the
thirst for blood or money with me....I love gamecocks
and the sport. Most good cockers are up in years
because that's how long it takes to learn the
intricacies of the family of fowl they have and how to
properly care for and breed that particular family of
fowl. That's why a lot of cockers have the same
family of fowl as their fathers and grandfathers had.
A game cock fights because he feels the only chicken
genetics that should be walking around on the face
of the earth are his genetics. Most cockers feel that
their family of fowl are the best on earth.....we take
a lot of pride in their gameness and fighting ability.
We will fight them against any cock that matches his
weight and feel he will win. The only way to know
this...or test for it....is to fight them. Like all sports
cockers have their slackers and schemers in the
sport. The true cockers hate the type because it
reflects bad on cockers.
Cockers literally goes through hell for their chickens.
Anything that will eat meat will eat a
chicken....usually coming under the cover of darkness
to do their deed. A chicken is nearly completely blind
in darkness, that's why they go to roost at dusk
before darkness. A Great Horned Owl can set down
on a limb right beside the chicken, set there and lick
his chops for a minute, and then simply reach over
and take the chicken to the ground. The owl will
usually eat what it wants of the chicken right there
but sometime will fly off with them. I had predators
come in at night and take chicks right out from under
the mother hen and she not suspect a thing. She
feels the movement under her but she can't see crap
and thinks it's the chicks moving around. But....let a
critter try that when she can see it and she will
quickly go to it's ass. I have had hens get killed
defending their chicks. Many times I've had snakes
come in and eat eggs or chicks and get stuck in the
pen because they can't get their fat spot back
through the wire. I simply say, I hope you enjoyed
your last supper bud. Several times I've sat up all
night in the chicken yard waiting and watching to get
the offender, several time three or four nights in a
row before I would get him. The chickens only
defense is the cocker and we know that so a good
cocker steps up. I've taken time off from work to
figure out what is killing my chickens and to stop it. I
don't like to kill a person's cat or dog and I've been in
several people's face about their dog killing my
chickens, if I know the owner. But, I let them know
that it must stop or I will stop it myself......and I've
made a few dogs and cats disappear in my life.
I appreciate anyone who's taken time to read this
long post. Nature works in funny ways. Some people
loves the Cocker Spaniels in the species of dogs,
some people loves the gamecock in the species of
chickens, etc., etc., etc. It is these individuals who
perpetuate the breeds within the species. Most
cockers will tell you that they didn't choose to love
gamecocks but feel rather that gamecocks chose
them. I wish I didn't care...my life would be a hell of
a lot simpler if I didn't care. I've spent a lot of time
worrying about what's happening to this sport and a
lot of time trying to explain it to people...just like I'm
doing now. But I can't help it....I just love and
respect the gamecock and have no choice in the
matter. I think the gamecock is a beautiful and proud
bird. I love and respect their gameness and their
commitment to be true to their nature. They do what
they do.....well...because that's what gamecocks do.
I haven't had any chickens since my job put me to
traveling almost four years ago. I haven't attended a
cockfight in over three years.....the laws have just
become to harsh. Some states are trying to pass
laws making it a felony to own gamecocks. Oh sure
they say, "own gamecocks for the purpose of
fighting", but then they assume that if you own them
it's for the purpose of fighting. It's the same crap
they're pulling on pit bull dogs.
I doubt that I will ever own gamecocks again, so Sko
if you're reading this, that's why I commented that
they could become extinct. When a member
comments that they don't support cockfighting I
would appreciate it if you would also comment that
you respect my right to support the sport or I will
constantly be explaining myself. However, if enough
members are offended by my participation on the
board and will publicly called for me to leave then I
will check out. I state it publicly because I want the
other members to know why I left.....that I didn't cut
and run. You will hear a lot of cockers state they are
as game as their chickens when the going gets
tough. I can honestly say I am a better man for
having been exposed to a dang chicken LOL.
I don't know how I can explain it more truthfully and
clearly than that. I want you guys to know that I
didn't edit this post for proper grammar and
punctuation. I simply typed it, run spell check, and
posted it, so some of my statements may be
awkward to read and understand.
