- File 05CRS03510 - et al
- Animal Cruelty Felony Charges
Every pet owner, pet breeder and commercial animal
enterprise urges you to vigorously prosecute Andrew
Cook and Adria Hinkle to the full extent of the law.
These two PeTA employees killed adoptable puppies
and kittens with a controlled substance,
pentobarbital, and callously tossed their bodies
into a grocery-store dumpster. As you know, they
obtained the young animals under false pretenses.
How many defenseless animals were killed by PeTA and
their employees that we will never know about? It
is utterly reprehensible that an organization that
claims to promote and support animal rights would
cruelly take their lives and dump them like so much
garbage.
PETA’s massive euthanasia program has resulted in
the deaths of over 12,400 companion animals since
1998. PETA’s income exceeded $29 million in 2004
and a miniscule amount has been devoted to actually
caring for animals.
Since the inception of PeTA in 1980, Ingrid Newkirk
has loudly renounced the torture and killing of a
myriad of animals, including cows, minks, monkeys,
elephants, fox, pigs and chicken. Hundreds of
thousands of animal sympathizers, horrified by
dramatic exposés, rushed to join PETA's ranks to end
the suffering while PeTA raked in their cash.
However, Newkirk was conspicuously silent regarding
the slaughter of hundreds of millions of companion
animals at municipal pounds. PETA was silent about
the execution of man's closest friends and
housemates: dogs and cats. PETA uses animals to
generate public sympathy and more importantly -
gullible people's money. It is not about elevating
animals' rights, but lowering our rights. We have
seen how PETA et al treat both animals and people
and it is cruel and evil.
PeTA's press release apologized for the illegal
dumping but not for killing healthy, adoptable
kittens, puppies and small dogs. Perhaps Ingrid
Newkirk and PeTA should also be charged with animal
cruelty.
Mental health professionals and top law enforcement
officials consider the blatant disregard for life
and desensitization to animal cruelty to be a red
flag. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association
identifies cruelty to animals as one of the
diagnostic criteria for conduct disorders, and the
FBI uses reports of these crimes in analyzing the
threat potential of suspected and known criminals.
Experts agree that it is the severity of the
behavior—not the species of the victim—that matters.
On behalf of thousands of animal owners across the
nation, we respectfully ask that, if convicted and
in addition to serving a period of incarceration,
Cook and Hinkle be required to undergo a thorough
psychological evaluation followed by mandatory
counseling at their own expense.
Neither Cook or Hinkle appears to be able or willing
to provide even the most basic care to animals.
People who demonstrate such blatant disregard for
life and desensitization to killing domesticated
pets can pose a serious risk to all
animals—including humans—with whom they come into
contact.
Because repeat crimes are the rule rather than the
exception among animal abusers and given the
defendants' apparent prolonged and utter disregard
for the lives of animals in their custody, we
implore your office to take every measure necessary
to ensure that if they are convicted, they will be
barred from all future contact with animals.
Animals which remain in the custody of either Cook
or Hinkle should be seized.
Thank you for your diligence in this matter, and for
your time and dedication to prosecuting this case.
- Respectfully
- Sue Beaulieu
