No matter what you call preserve hunting, the
core issue remains: Our rights as property
owners must be protected. Every step
backwards represents a potential slide down a
slippery slope for all property rights and
for animal agriculture too.
Preserve hunting for elk, deer and bison is
not for everyone, but to criminalize this
form of commerce is a violation of my
property rights and my ability to do as I see
fit both with the animals I own and my
property.
This ban is also just another attempt by
radical animal rights activists pushing for
even more restrictions on the harvesting of
any privately owned livestock - whether elk,
deer or bison or domestic livestock like
cattle and hogs. The language of the measure
means that not only will I be unable to offer
my animals for the hunt, I, and all
alternative livestock ranchers, won't be able
to process these animals for commercial sale
in restaurants and grocery stores or even for
personal consumption.
I'm going to do my part. I'm going to ensure
that game preserve hunting remains an option,
animal agriculture remains viable in North
Dakota and my rights as a property owner
remain intact by voting no on any preserve
hunting ban.

ELP has just learnt that our dear old friend, Rod
Coronado, yesterday handed himself
into prison.

ELP has just learnt that our dear old friend, Rod
Coronado, yesterday handed himself
into prison.
Rod is a well known American activist who over the
years has been involved with a
number of different groups including Earth First!, Sea
Shepherd and the Animal
Liberation Front. He is a former prisoner having been
jailed for both ALF and Earth
First! activity. He has also served time for an action
protesting against the
mascare, carried out against Native Americans, by
General Custer.
Rod's current sentence is one year imprisonment for
telling people how to make an
ALF incendiary device during an Animal Rights
gathering.
Rod is an old friend of ELP's and he is known as a
decided individual who has always
been first to offer his support for the prisoners. Now it
is our turn to help him.

Gemperle Investigation Reveals "staged,
manipulated" Video
How much fraud and outright lies will it take before
people of, not just the USA, but the entire WORLD, get
a backbone and stand up against these Animal

Gemperle Enterprises, a large commercial egg
producer that was accused in undercover video last
week of egregious animal abuse when workers were
shown kicking and stomping on hens and leaving
diseased and injured birds to suffer in their cages,
issued a statement tonight that the video was "a
staged, vicious attack" on the company.
"We are continuing to investigate and now know that
our employees (in the video) were coerced by the
activist to engage in behavior that is against our high
standards for hen welfare for the sole purpose of
filming a sensational video," the company said.
The activist in question was an investigator for the
vegan activist group Mercy For Animals.
Gemperle Enterprises further reported that an entry-
level employee said he was "directed by the activist" to
perform acts of abuse while being filmed and that not
were the more sensational video segments staged,
but the film was "manipulated" to include
footage "sped up to appear more forceful and
extreme."
The statement said "the Gemperle family is absolutely
committed to the proper welfare of our hens and
adheres to the highest standards of animal
welfare."
Mercy For Animals called the Gemperle
statement "riddled with inconsistencies, blatant lies
and libelous claims that the video evidence clearly
refutes." The group said it is prepared to sue the
company over these libelous and defamatory claims if
it does not immediately withdraw "these false and
misleading statements." This regrettable, but
predictable, public relations ploy is commonly used
when factory farmers are caught on film subjecting
animals to appalling abuses, said Mercy For Animals.
Instead of desperately attempting to point fingers, the
group said, Gemperle should be focused on taking
swift, corrective actions.
Even though the investigator was hired as a
construction and maintenance worker - with no
responsibility to oversee the birds - Mercy For
Animals claims he reported concerns regarding
cruelty to animals to superiors on at least three
separate occasions. The group said he was met with
a callous attitude and complete disregard for animals
by Gemperle supervisors. In fact, Mercy For Animals in
its statement that Steve Gemperle, president, routinely
walked past crippled birds in shed aisles who were
suffering from broken bones and being deprived of
veterinary care or access to wholesome food or
water.
Gemperle Enterprise, based in Turlock, Cal., is one of
the largest egg producers in the U.S. with 2.2 million
hens housed in barns in two California counties, The
company is a member of the United Egg Producer
(UEP) Certified animal welfare program that has
husbandry standards that were developed and are
kept updated by an independent committee of animal
ethicists and other poultry scientists.
The standards create parameters for hen space, feed
and water space, air quality, beak trimming, molting
without feed or water withdrawal, catching and
transport, as well as euthanasia and on-farm
depopulation when necessary. The standards govern
both cage and cage-free production.
UEP Certified producers must pass annual,
independent, third-party audits to demonstrate their
competence and compliance. Producers representing
85% of the U.S. egg industry are UEP Certified
producers.
Gemperle Enterprises provides eggs to NuCal Foods
Inc., the largest distributor of eggs to restaurants and
supermarkets on the West Coast. NuCal, based in
Ripon, Cal., is also a UEP Certified company.
